Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University Ayodhya (U.P.)

Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh as an affiliating university on March 4, 1975, through notification no. 1192/fifteen-10-46(6)-1975. Prof. (Dr.) Surendra Singh was appointed as the first Vice Chancellor. In 1993–94, the university was renamed to honor the memory of the late Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a visionary socio-economic ideologue and a prominent freedom fighter.

Initially, the university operated from a rented space in Civil Lines, Faizabad. The process of acquiring land for its permanent office began in 1976. The foundation stone for the current administrative building was laid by the then Chancellor and Governor Shri G.D. Tapase on May 2, 1978.
